A little update … We’ve been busy practicing old and new songs ready for a couple of upcoming gigs, and getting our new recruit Darren Reay up to speed. Darren is taking the place of our beloved Jimmy Howes, who has decided to take a break from the Werbeniuk shenanigans. As with anyone who’s ever trodden the boards with us, the door’s always open … To misquote the League of Gentlemen: WERBENIUK – YOU’LL NEVER LEAVE!
Facebook people will have seen this already, but here’s all five of us the other night after a practice at our Billingham HQ:
So… watch out for us in the coming months. Details of gigs will appear on the gigs page, and so far we’ve got April 16 at Hole In The Wall, Darlington, and – as previously announced – May 28 at TSOne in Middlesbrough. We’ll get sharing event pages on Facebook soon, so watch out for those and get yourselves there! More to follow!
We’re proud to announce we’ll be playing this free festival in May, presented by Into Tomorrow
“A non-stop 9hrs of live music with 14 acts across 2 stages (upstairs in The Alchemy and downstairs in the main bar) …and no clashes!
Lost State of Dance / Major Matilda / The Approved / Chloe Chadwick / Crease / Heather Story / Idle Violets / Charlie Thomas – Singer Songwriter / Nine Tons / Grace Gibson / Werbeniuk / Michael Gallagher / Velvoir / The Wainstones !!!
Come and celebrate our amazing North East music scene with us! Free because it’s our thank you to all of you who make the Teesside scene the best in the country.”
Werbeniuk wish you all a Happy New Year, and hope it brings you health and happiness. Thanks for bearing with us during a difficult year; 2017 finds us rejuvenated and optimistic, writing new songs and looking forward to sharing them with you. See you in a pub or a tent sometime soon. Cheers!
Just to reiterate what was published to the Facebook page, we’ve had a couple of practices now with our new member Tim Oxnard (looking youthful & handsome 2nd from left). Tim’s been in The High Plane Drifters (as featured on “Breaking Bad”), The Approved and The Magick Godmothers, among other bands. We’re currently rehearsing for a couple of gigs in November and December (more on that soon), but it’s going pretty well so far, so fingers crossed! A
Having recently found ourselves in excess of the recently-imposed EU Baldies-in-Bands Quota, we decided we had to make changes. This meant giving our long-suffering (and newest) member Martin an ultimatum: either adopt the permanent wearing of a TRULY MASSIVE HAT, or sling his hook. There being no hat of a suitable size in the known universe, Martin has reluctantly mutually decided to leave the band at the end of the month. We thank him for his conscientious mastery of Werbeniuk’s complex and infectious music, his flair and panache, his world-class swearing, tiny drumsticks, and unfailing support for Darlington FC.
To say farewell in style (or lack thereof), Martin’s final gig with Werbeniuk will be on Saturday 30 April at ARC in Stockton, supporting Space.
Werbeniuk will continue as a four-piece, and will be writing and recording new material, and hopefully bringing it to a venue near you in the near future. Keep em peeled.
We will be hawking our second album “ONE OF US DID” (out now) on SATURDAY 27th FEB at the Westgarth Social Club in Middlesbrough. We’ll be joined by Talk Symmetry and The Billingham Forehead.
Striking and contemporary, Talk Symmetry bring a unique twist to electronic music, meshing together synthetic sounds and live guitar melodies, woven with a heady vocal intricacy.
Billingham Forehead features Brian Stevenson, better known from his time in the band Junior Elvis. Currently a two-piece, they sing about love and death (and, formerly, soft drinks).
We are very happy to announce that our long-awaited second album, One Of Us Did, will be released on Friday 5 February 2016 by Watt Noiz and Smoggy Sounds Records. From scathing political anthems to biting social commentary, it certainly pulls no punches.
The album will be launched with two gigs on Saturday 6 February 2016.
First one is at Sound It Out Records, Stockton-on-Tees, @ 4pm.
We’ll then run up the High Street to The Sun Inn for 8pm – this time with special guests “Monkeys In Love” (Manchester) and “Ten Foot Tom And The Leprosy Crooks” (Whitby).
The CD will be available at these and other forthcoming gigs, from Sound It Out Records in Stockton. The digital version will be on-sale online from iTunes, Amazon, werbeniuk.bandcamp.com and other digital outlets.
Ladies and Gentlemen. A little Christmas gift from Werbeniuk. Free download, but if you want to pass on a little seasonal cheer, feel free to pay what you want. All proceeds will go to to Parkinson’s UK. You can donate directly at https://www.justgiving.com/Diana-Mellor3 as well. See you in the New Year with exciting stuff. Merry Christmas!
Our next gig, in Darlington on Sunday October 25th. We’re due on about 5.15pm, at Seen/Inside-Out. We did this last year, and it’s a superb event.
Tickets are priced £8, and allow you to see loads of great bands and musicians in loads of venues all over the town, supporting Oxfam to fight poverty and suffering around the world. They are available from the Oxfam Darlington shop, or Voodoo Cafe, both on Skinnergate in Darlington – if you want to buy online, visit
